Classes and Workshops

Basic Camera :: Wednesday 4/12, 7 PM

In this 90-minute hands-on workshop you will learn the basic functions of our Panasonic AC90 HD camcorder: focus, exposure, color balance and audio. Taught by production technician Jim Kelty, the workshop is designed to help VCAM members feel more comfortable with our gear and to encourage them to use our cameras to tell their stories.

This workshop will teach you:

How to set up and operate a tripod
How to navigate the camera menu and control the basic functions of the Panasonic AC90
How to use different microphones and monitor audio through the camera
We will provide all of the equipment used during the workshop. Students will also receive a reference guide detailing the procedures for operating the Canon XA10.

Studio Production:: Wednesday 4/26, 7 PM

In this 90-minute hands-on workshop you will learn the basic technical procedures for recording a show in the VCAM studio. Taught by production technician Jim Kelty, the workshop is designed to help VCAM members feel more comfortable and confident using the equipment in our studio and control room.

This workshop will teach you how to:

Operate the studio cameras, tripod/dollies, and microphones
Operate the audio mixer and video switcher in the control room
Control the studio lighting, use the intercom system and chroma key, and roll in videos, images, and music from the Internet or other external sources

Certifications

Orientation :: Saturdays 4/1, 4/15, 4/29, 11 AM

This is step one! This free class will certify you to borrow most VCAM gear, use the studio, start a show, and to take all our other workshops! (And to be clear, all our workshops are free; all our everything we do (gear rentals, events, training, time slots on the channel) are free.)

Orientation takes about half an hour to an hour, we'll tell you about our policies and some of the things you can do at VCAM, we'll take a tour of the Media Factory, and fill out some paperwork. —That's it! Then you're certified!

Please bring a photo ID and make sure you live or work in our service area.

Walk-ins Welcome

Edit Suite Certification :: Saturdays 4/8, 4/22, 11 AM

Certification to use VCAM edit suites, with Premiere, After Effects, Final Cut, color critical monitors, and more.

We'll cover the essentials of media management, media backups, and using the VCAM SAN, plus potential next steps to learn to edit.
