Bill@SXSW

I am flying out of Austin, Texas today on my way back to Burlington having just attended the 2006 South By Southwest Interactive/Film conference. I was sent here by VCAM to discover what I could about online self-distribution and self-publishing of video and audio content. I have learned a lot and met some pretty interesting folks doing some pretty interesting things with online video -- everything from simply putting a video up on a free video-host like Google Video or YouTube, to video blogging (or "vlogging") to "vodcasting" your video series with an XML feed.

For a good example of what someone can do with a vlog, check out Minnesota Stories by video blogger Chuck Olsen, who I met here at the conference. And of course there is the ever-popular Rocketboom with Amanda Congdon.

Now think about the stories you have to tell and how they might work on the web. VCAM has the cameras and microphones and editing rooms. As long as you're producing content for channel 15, why not get it online as well?

For more specifics about my time at SXSW, go to my personal blog, click "advanced search" and type "[SXSW]" in the search field. The stories tagged with that in the titles are about my trip.
