This edition of Salaam Shalom: Report on Palestine/Israel commemorates the second anniversary of Israel’s savage war in 2014—Operation Protective Edge—with gripping reports from Mondoweiss, Al Jazeera, and The Empire Files. These contributions examine different aspects of Israel’s war crimes and ongoing siege against Gaza, including indiscriminate air and artillery attacks on civilian neighborhoods and infrastructure, and critical shortages of electricity and other basic necessities.

Author and activist Max Blumenthal, interviewed by Abby Martin, host of The Empire Files, shares eye-witness accounts of the 2014 war in Gaza, and discusses the linkage between what he experienced in Gaza and the rise of a far-right, ultra-racist ideology in Israeli society and within the government. Finally, this program includes brief reports on the Israeli military’s propensity to violence, the indefinite detention without charge of a well-known Palestinian clown, and the unconstitutional executive order from New York Governor Mario Cuomo aimed at punishing entities supportive of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.
