This edition of Salaam Shalom: Report on Palestine/Israel explores the relationship between Jewish Day Schools in the United States and unquestioning support for Zionism and Israel by teachers and students. Between the Lines, a provocative film by two young Jewish filmmakers, graduates of Jewish Day Schools, examines the pedagogical and cultural processes that these schools deploy to shield Israel from critical scrutiny, but that also, when tested in the real world, ultimately lead some students to question and break with the fundamental tenets of that education where Israel is concerned.

We also air three documentaries by Defence for Children International—Palestine and Forensic Architecture that deconstruct the murder of two, unarmed Palestinian teenagers in the West Bank in 2014 and probe the effects today on their families. A Israeli Jewish policeman was indicted in 2014 for the murder of one of the boys, but has yet to be brought to justice. Our last report features testimony by a former Israeli combat soldier describing how he and his fellow soldiers in an armed unit destroyed a Palestinian neighborhood last summer during the war on Gaza, even though they faced no live fire or hostilities from the community.
