This edition of Salaam Shalom: Report on Palestine/Israel focuses again on the situation in Gaza, one year after Israel’s devastating attack on the occupied and besieged territory during Operation Protective Edge. The 51-day assault killed over 2,200 Palestinians, including 550 children. We will air a video about Gaza’s firemen, called Gaza Fire, and another featuring an interview with Dr. Norman Finkelstein, one of the leading U.S. scholars on Israel-Palestine. Finkelstein explains the failure of Amnesty International to do justice to Israel’s war crimes in Gaza during the 2014 war and deconstructs the absurd and unfounded charges leveled by AI against Palestinian resistance fighters who were defending Gaza. Finkelstein also offers thoughtful observations on other aspects of Israel’s war and siege, and the suffering of the people of Gaza. Finally, this program features testimony by Israeli women soldiers who served in Israel’s occupation forces, recorded by Breaking the Silence, and a short report on Palestinian hunger striker Khader Adnan produced by Al Jazeera Plus.
