This edition of Salaam Shalom: Report on Palestine/Israel continues coverage of the Special Session of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine, which convened in Brussels from September 24-25. Its final report found that Israel was guilty of war crimes during its massive attacks and massacres in Gaza over 51 days in July and August. This week, we feature the testimony of David Sheen, a Canadian-Israeli Jew and social activist. Sheen presents compelling evidence of a pervasive climate in Israel of incitement to racism, xenophobia and genocide against Palestinians and other non-Jews, particularly over the last five years, by prominent government and religious figures, the media, and the general public. This, he argues, is essential to understanding Israel’s repressive and destructive policies against Gaza and the Palestinian people.

This program will also highlight the testimony at the Russell Tribunal by Dr. Mads Gilbert of Norway, who was working as a surgeon in Gaza during Israel’s attacks this summer. His personal and medical experiences in Gaza, and his description of Israel’s deliberate attacks on Gaza’s medical system and personnel, are impossible to forget and profoundly disturbing.
