Artist Katharine Montstream talks about the Moran Plant and her most recent work during a site-specific exhibit of her paintings, Moran Plant 2.0, in Burlington, VT on June 21, 2016.

Montstream first toured the abandoned electric plant on Burlington’s waterfront in 2013. Inspired by the gritty decay of the condemned building, she created her first series of paintings in 2014, using traditional approaches. Her new paintings, Moran 2.0, are more abstract and use tape, a process used by fellow local painter, also represented in the Moran, Mary Lacey. Montstream has become passionately involved in the campaign to redevelop the Moran Plant as a cultural center, serving on the board.

This 15-minute recap of Monstream’s artist talk touches on how she first encountered the plant, her latest creative process, anecdotes of the names of the paintings, and renderings of the future Moran Plant.

Note: There is poor audio quality in the first 5 minutes.
