This edition of Salaam Shalom: Report on Palestine/Israel features the second in our series of presentations by David Sheen on institutional racism, discrimination, vigilante persecution, and violence by Israeli Jewish groups and government officials against the country’s non-Jewish citizens and African refugees. Sheen, an Israeli Jew and activist, deconstructs the motivations and objectives of Israeli state racism and its connections to Israel’s quest to preserve and expand the dominance of Jewish political, economic, and cultural power no matter the cost. This particular talk by Sheen, given in March 2015 in New York, is called “The War on Love”. It unmasks actions, statements, and campaigns by individual Israeli Jews and organizations, on the left and right of the political spectrum, religious and secular, dedicated to stopping Jews and non-Jews from falling in love, having sexual relations, and marrying.

This program also features a documentary produced by journalist Abby Martin and The Empire Files on the history of Zionist colonization of Palestine and the wars and ethnic cleansing it engendered since the late 19th century. The contemporary racism that Sheen exposes has its roots in this history.

Finally, there are two short videos that were released by the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem, one of which documents the arbitrary and criminal shooting of a young Palestinian man by a trigger-happy Israeli soldier in the West Bank. This is the reality of violence, terror, and humiliation experienced daily by Palestinians under occupation.
